International Baccalaureate Program (IB)

International Baccalaureate Program

IB Coordinator:  Dan Hadary

Valparaiso High School offers the International Baccalaureate Program to students who wish to select academically challenging courses while in high school.  This choice offers the student a comprehensive, fully developed curriculum, which can be undertaken in two ways.  The first is to commit to a two-year plan, which, if completed successfully, would result in the awarding of an IB Diploma.  The second manner in which the IB can be approached is through IB certificates.  The certificate route would not require a two-year commitment, but would allow students to take part in the IB classes of their choice in specific academic areas/subjects. College credit for IB courses is possible depending upon scores received on the IB Exams.

Through comprehensive and balanced curricula coupled with challenging assessments, the International Baccalaureate Organization aims to assist schools in their endeavors to develop the individual talents of young people and teach them to relate the experience of the classroom to the realities of the world outside.  Beyond intellectual rigor and high academic standards, strong emphasis is placed on the ideals of international understanding and responsible citizenship.  To this end, the IB students may become critical and compassionate thinkers, lifelong learners and informed participants in local and world affairs, conscious of the shared humanity that binds all people together while respecting the variety of cultures and attitudes that makes for the richness of life.
