 IDOE Pathways

VHS complies with the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) "Graduation Pathways" requirement. With Graduation Pathways, students are able to individualize their graduation requirements to align to their postsecondary goal of Enrollment, Employment, or Enlistment leading to service.

HONORS CLASSES
  • What are Honors Classes?
    • Courses taught at a faster pace, and a more in-depth level, where there will be an H designation on your transcript, and the course will be weighted (i.e., a B will count as an A)
  • Why are Honors Classes great for students?
    • Students will challenge themselves and better prepare themselves for post-secondary opportunities by taking honors courses over standard courses.
  • What do students earn by taking Honors Classes?
    • Students can earn higher Grade Point Averages by taking courses of higher academic rigor, and thus prepare themselves for the next level.
 
DUAL CREDIT CLASSES
  • What are Dual Credit Classes?
    • Courses where students earn credit in high school as well as post-secondary institutions.
  • Why are Dual Credit Classes great for students?
    • Students may begin to experience college-level courses while still in high school, and learn the benefits of the college experience with three different institutions.
  • What do students earn by taking Dual Credit Classes?
    • Students may earn up to 15+ dual credits by the time they graduate, depending on what courses they take.
 
ADVANCED PLACEMENT (AP) CLASSES
  • What are AP Classes?
    • Courses that are taken at an advanced pace, where students take an exam at the end of the course.
  • Why are AP Classes great for students?
    • Research has proven time and again that students who take AP courses and the corresponding exams have had the most success at the post-secondary level.
  • What do students earn by taking AP Classes?
    • Students earn dual credit if they score between a 3-5 on the AP exam, and are better prepared in their subject area.
 
INTERNATIONAL BACCALEUREATE (IB) CLASSES
  • What is International Baccalaureate?
    • Curriculum designed to develop well-rounded, resilient, self-motivated learners who graduate high school with the knowledge and skills necessary to face challenges that come in our ever-changing world.  Students are empowered to take ownership of their learning and to find ways to make a difference in the world around them.
  • Why is IB great for students?
    • Students are challenged with rigorous content, pushing them to explore and question the world around them, while preparing them for success after high school.  IB courses provide students with a sense of purpose for their education.
  • What do students earn by taking IB Classes?
    • Students may earn the IB Diploma by completing subjects in all six academic groups and completing the 3 DP Core (Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge (TOK), and Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS)).  Students who may not have the space to complete the entire diploma requirements are able to complete IB Certificates for individual IB Courses.  Students who score well at the end of the year IB Exams have the potential to earn college credit.
