International Holocaust Remembrance Day

International Holocaust Remembrance Day, observed annually on January 27th, marks the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau and serves as a solemn reminder of one of humanity's darkest chapters. On this day, we pause to remember the six million Jewish victims and millions of others who perished in the Holocaust - not as statistics, but as mothers, fathers, children, and grandparents whose lives were brutally cut short simply because of who they were. The day carries special weight now, as the last survivors who can tell their stories firsthand are in their twilight years, making it more crucial than ever that we preserve and pass on their testimonies to future generations.

January 27th, 2025 is the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau.  The theme this year is, “Holocaust Remembrance for Dignity and Human Rights.”  We encourage all of our students to take some time to browse the VHS Media Center site, International Holocaust Remembrance Day, for more information and access to VHS library resources, virtual events, and opportunities for thoughtful reflection.
