Honors Programs/Classes at VHS

IB (International Baccalaureate) & AP (Advanced Placement)
Valparaiso High School offers two programs for students who wish to select academically challenging courses while in high school.

International Baccalaureate Program (IB)

One option is for students to become a part of the International Baccalaureate program. This choice offers the student a comprehensive, fully developed curriculum, which can be undertaken in two ways.  The first is to commit to a four-year plan, which, if completed successfully, would result in the awarding of an IB Diploma.  The second manner in which the IB can be approached is through IB certificates.  The certificate route would not require a four-year commitment, but would allow students to take part in the IB classes of their choice in specific academic areas/subjects. College credit for IB courses is possible depending upon scores received on the IB Exams. For further information, please visit the IB Site: Click Here.

Advanced Placement (AP)

A second option for receiving college credit is the Advanced Placement program.  Advanced Placement classes are available in science, mathematics, English, social studies and art. College credit for AP classes is also based on scores received on the AP tests.

Most IB and AP classes at Valparaiso High School have merged into one IB/AP course.  Students who enroll in these courses have the option of taking one or both of the IB or AP exams.  Those who pursue the IB route will have additional externally evaluated requirements during the duration of the class.
